| Ok, I'll try to make this as brief and painless as possible.
In
my young and nimble years I was a seasonal NPS park ranger and, after
way too many years of college, a professional archaeologist. From
Virginia to Alaska I troweled my way into neither fame nor
fortune...but I did have a good time. Years later, quite by accident, I
found myself the owner of a small publishing company. That was followed
by 10 years as a museum publications director. I'm currently an
independent contractor specializing in historic preservation and
environmental compliance. I like this gig because it gives me huge
chunks of free time to be deliciously irresponsible and care-free (not
to be confused with car-free, which is discussed elsewhere on this
website). Anyway, I like to think of my working life as my dormant state. That guy on the right is me in a semi-serious, quasi-professional mood. (I don't wear suits, except at funerals.)
And then there's my active state.
I'm pretty much interested in everything and master of not much.
Astronomy, architecture, painting, skiing, fly fishing, hiking,
backpacking, woodworking, photography, natural history, archaeology... and, of course, biking. I'm married
to a lovely woman who lets me run amok and keeps the "honey-dos" to a
minimum. I hate cars and planes (for myriad reasons), and I admire
anyone who works towards the development of sustainable communities and
the protection of our dwindling and threatened natural resources. My
favorite possessions are my GPS unit, my viciously cruel and
unpredictable Svea backpacking stove, and my folding bike.
Any questions? Good. |
